Workshop on Mindfulness

Speakers Profile

Prof. P L Dhar is a former professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is trainer on mindfulness. He is a firm believer of teachings of Swami Vivekananda. He is an avid reader and psychologist. He assists in policy and strategy formations for corporates as well.

Summary of the Session

Vivekananda School of Business Studies organized a workshop on Mindfulness on 16th September 2019 for the faculty members of the department.

The session was attended by 35 faculty members. Prof. Dhar explained the concept of mindfulness with beautiful examples of Buddha’s teachings. He also conducted excellent meditation sessions during the workshop. The session enabled faculty members to control unwanted thought processes to improve work efficiency. He stressed upon empowering value education among teachers and students.

The first session was based upon self-observation through breathing techniques followed by observations of feelings and sensations. He encouraged faculty members to provoke students to analyze their own experiences from value perspective.

He stressed upon the fact that value education is the summation of spiritual education and emotional education. He specifically focussed upon the teachings of Buddha and Swami Vivekananda.
The session ended with FAQs on Meditation and value education.

One Week Faculty Development Program on Econometric Techniques

Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) organized one week faculty development program on econometric techniques: panel data and time series analysis from 3rd December to 8th December 2018. The FDP was aimed at helping participants teach effectively using and applying panel data and time series. On this occasion, Prof. Rattan Sharma, Chairperson and Principal Director of VIPS, graced the occasion with his presence and welcomed the resource persons. In his welcome speech, he described the importance of research in the life of a teacher. He highlighted the importance and objectives of organizing this faculty development programs. Dr. Indira Bharadwaj, FDP Director and Dean, VSBS, welcomed to the resource persons with the floral bouquet and welcomed participants from all over India.

The resource persons for the FDP were Prof. CP Gupta from Department of Financial Studies, Delhi University, Dr. Suresh Chand Aggarwal, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) as Senior Consultant and Dr. Prabhat Mittal from Department of Commerce, Satyawati College Eve (University of Delhi).

The first three days from 3rd – 5th December, 2018 were taken up by Prof. CP Gupta. The session included in-depth discussions on the concepts of regression analysis, assumptions of ols and the consequences of their violations, panel data, endogeneity and exogeneity issues in panel data analysis. He also explained within and between effects, fixed effects models, random effect hausman test, binary dependent variable and panel data analysis. With the hands on application of stata software participants were highly satisfied.

The last three days sessions from 6th – 8th December, 2018 were taken up by Dr. Suresh Chand Aggarwal and Dr. Prabhat Mittal. The session included hands on training on creating dummy and regression, unit root, co-integration, ARIMA, Grangers causality, VAR, VECM, ARCH, GARCH and its applications in the field of corporate finance, financial markets and institutions, securities analysis and portfolio management, international finance, public finance and infrastructure financing.
