Mr. Atulit Saxena, COO of The Future Group gave us valuable insights about how the world has tried to cope up with the ‘new normal’ for the last 5 months. When the lockdown was imposed, half of us were completely alienated to the word ‘lockdown’ or ‘pandemic’. During the onset of the lockdown, we experienced an extremely strange environment. The silence was comforting yet very devastating. While some of us had the time to do the things we always postponed, others faced anxiety – anxiety to overstock because the fear of not having enough circled our minds constantly.Indians always cursed and enjoyed the ‘brushing of elbows’ in crowded marketplaces for it gave us all a sense of ‘boom’. Slowly, people started preferring Roti over kapda and makaan & the word ‘essentials’ was also a new addition in our vocabularies.
While the negative factors of the lockdown may seem endless, we cannot miss out on how well the market hygiene and air quality improved. New guidelines and new protocols became a common change in every part of the country. Sanitizers and masks became available like water. We also came across stories we could only imagine hearing in our nightmares – Jaipur jeweler selling vegetables! A sharp rise was seen in the online pharma industry, companies like Dabur, Himalya, Emami grew because they provided the world with what it needed the most – immunity!
As everyone was longing to return to normal life, the lockdown slowly lifted but markets have not yet taken a U-turn. Uncertainty continues till an unknown period. Celebrating festivals is not as fun during a pandemic and hence, the joy and excitement was lower than usual. A shocking change was seen in almost every person during this time – lawyers were seen turning chefs and youtubers, students were seen attending online classes and working from home.
